Snow showers today, tonight

(SEATTLE) Parts of the Puget Sound Area could see snowfall as early as this afternoon, even downtown Seattle.

Just not everyone will see it.

Meteorologist Matthew Cullen is with the Seattle office of the National Weather Service says snow is most likely in the Cascade foothills, North Sound, and Kitsap Peninsula. South Sound neighborhoods will likely not see powder because of warmer air there.

“We’re just not expecting a whole lot of snow,” Cullen tells Northwest Newsradio. “This truly is the case that a degree or two in temperature, either way, makes a difference between snow piling up, and a very cold rain falling.”

He predicts up to an inch of snow in some lowland areas today and this evening, with more in the higher elevations. ANd once we get to Wednesday, anything left on the ground is washed away by rain.

…which sets up another warning for Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

“We are going to see overnight temperatures well below freezing, and down to about 30 in Seattle,” Cullen says. “Watch out for bridges and other roads the tend to freeze easily on Thursday morning.”
