(SEATTLE) A woman who used to clean house for Jeff Bezos says his employees treated her differently because she was Hispanic.
Mercedes Wedaa supervised other housekeepers, and says those who were Hispanic…including herself…were treated differently. In her lawsuit, she talks of having no break room, no easy access to a restroom, and being expected to work long hours, sometimes up to 14 hours a day.
She was ultimately fired after being on the job for three years.
Her suit seeks back pay for hours she claims she wasn’t compensated for, and punitive damages for the unjust working conditions. According to GeekWire, the defendant in the lawsuit isn’t Jeff Bezos, rather the companies that manage his property.
An attorney who represents Bezos made an email statement to Bloomberg, reading in part “We’ve investigated these claims, they have no merit, and we’ll defend against them.”
