One dead, one arrested in Seattle school shooting

(SEATTLE) A vigil was held at a North Seattle church last night to remember the victim of yesterday’s Ingraham High School shooting.

Last night’s vigil was designed to comfort, and offer a sense of peace.

“We had prayers, we had some singing,” says one participant. Another told KOMO-4 “I have a lot of emotions…I’m very sad and a bit mad that this still has to happen.”

“Went to middle school with him, he was friendly with everyone, it’s upsetting,” said a teenager who was friends with the victim.

Seattle Police have not publicly released the victim’s name, nor the name of the suspect from the incident that began just before 10am at the school in North Seattle. Several witnesses say they heard more than one shot.

Seattle Schools Superintendent Brent Jones says they believe the shooting was a targeted attack, and that no one else was in danger.

“I want to acknowledge to Seattle Public School families that your safety remains my focus, and I’ll be working with the mayor an anyone else who wants to get involved in this endeavor to make our schools safer,” Jones said at a media briefing.

There’s no school Ingraham High School for the rest of the week. And there’s a resource page for students and parents needing help on the school’s website.
