(BLAINE) Now that pandemic restrictions are lifted at the border, more and more of us are driving north into Canada.
If you have plans to drive north, there’s a renewed effort to warn you about insurance.
A new Canadian law impacts an increasing number of Americans driving north. Simply put, if you’re in Canada, and you get into an accident, your U- S insurance company can’t go after a Canadian, even if they are fully at-fault.
“We’ve already begun to see the impact of this change to B.C. liability laws, just as the US-Canadian border has fully reopened and more U.S. drivers are once again visiting places like Victoria and Vancouver,” NW Insurance Council President Kenton Brine said in a written statement. “Most people heading north for a weekend holiday or skiing trip are unaware that without the right coverage, they could be left financially unprotected, with no ability to seek recovery from a B.C. resident’s insurance, even if that person caused the accident.”
In other words, make sure you have full coverage…not just liability coverage…before driving north.
