(SEATTLE) The COVID booster effective against the Omicron variant is finally available to everyone, as the youngest among us finally get their turn.
Seattle Childrens Hospital began offering the bivalent booster to kids ages 6 months to 5 years Wednesday afternoon.
“Yes, we are now offering the bivalent vaccine to children who are less than 5 years of age,” says Deanna Dudley, who supervises the hospital’s vaccination clinic.
She reminds parents you need to know what brand of vaccine your young child has already received before getting the bivalent.
In this case, it makes a difference.
“For Pfizer, any child who’s in the process of completing their primary series…that is a 3 dose series….will now complete their series with the Pfizer bivalent,” Dudley tells Northwest Newsradio.
If your child still needs to complete the Moderna series, you have to do that with the original Moderna vaccine, then wait two months before receiving the bivalent formula as a booster.
She says if you’re not sure, its always best to consult your pediatrician.
