(SNOQUALMIE, Wash.) — The Washington State Patrol is reminding drivers to be prepared if they are heading over the mountain passes.
Trooper Rick Johnson says when chains are required, all vehicles will be checked before they are allowed to proceed.
“We sit in the middle of the road and vehicles and semis go on each side of us and we inspect every vehicle going through,” he says. “If they don’t [have chains on] they get stopped.”
Trooper Johnson adds that it is a good idea to practice installing the chains before starting your travels, as the State Patrol cannot always assist drivers.
He adds that just one spin-out can block traffic and close the pass.
