(OLYMPIA) Our state’s death toll from FLU this season has risen to 13, which turns out to be not a good sign of what’s to come.

In all of last year’s flu season, 26 Washingtonians died. We’re barely into this year’s season with a death count already HALF that.

“We are seeing much more activity in Influenza than in COVID, and we are seeing higher positivity rates,” says state epidemiologist Scott Lindquist.

According to his numbers, The Everett Clinic alone recently reported over half of the people coming in to be tested are indeed positive for Influenza A.

“The power is in the public,” Lindquist reminds you. “Wear a mask, we know over the past three years that masks work to prevent the spread of respiratory illness.”

You can still get your flu shot, and wearing that mask in public cuts the risk of airborne viruses…like the flu…dramatically.
