This story stinks! But it’s about something good for your garden

Your lucky number will be “two” if you manage to get your hands into the steaming pile of garden goodness known as “Zoo Doo”.

Let’s be honest.  When you talk about close to a thousand animals, that’s a lot of poop, and it has to go somewhere.  So, instead of putting it in the trash, Seattle’s Woodland Park Zoo has, for years, composted it into a fertilizing soil mix, the aforementioned “Zoo Doo”, which is made up of the leavings of non-primate plant-eaters and is said to be fabulous for your garden.

Liv Johansson, whose nicknames include Doctor Doo, the GM of BM and Captain Caca, says Zoo Doo is full of nutrients for plants as well as microbes that blend well with the existing soil, and because it’s animal manure, Johansson says, “You get great texture, kind of nice, moist, clumpy texture.  It’s odor-free. I assure you, it is a fully-mature, fully-stable compost.  It’s ready for application on anything edible or ornamental, and it’s got a lot of nitrogen in it that’s is really available for plants, and they love that.”

You can go to the Woodland Park Zoo’s website to order from 25 gallons to a large truckload that would rival a lawyer or politician.  This weekend’s pick-up is sold out, but there’s another the last weekend of April.  You can call 206-625-POOP for more information.
